Dangerous Parking |
||
|
Hello Resident,
Officers from the Seaton Neighbourhood Team have this morning been in Colyton. Whilst on patrol, we noticed a vehicle parked on the pavement. This vehicle had previously been seized from the same location and the registered keeper given strong words of advice about the dangers it presents. Unfortunately this information was not heeded to and as such, the vehicle was seized for a second time.
Whilst parking on the pavement is not normally a policing matter, if it presents a danger for other road users it amounts to an offence contrary to Section 22 of the Road Traffic Act 1988.
In this instance, the vehicle was located some 50-100yards from the nearby primary school. The danger it posed was highlighted from a previous incident when a pupil from the school emerged from behind the large vehicle and was nearly hit by an oncoming vehicle.
In addition to this, the vehicle was parked on the mouth of a junction. Rule 243 of The Highway Code states that you should not park within 10 metres of junction. This is purely to ensure there is sufficient visibility for road users using the junction. The large vehicle in this instance prevents people emerging from being able to judge oncoming traffic.
